Honeymoon Safari Kenya for Brazilian Portuguese Speakers | BestCamp

You just got married in Brazil. Now you want wide open skies, a tent that feels like a suite, and maybe a beach after the dust. Honeymoon safari kenya brazilian portuguese speakers: this guide is built for couples who want romance without guesswork. Planning a trip from São Paulo or Rio takes more than picking a pretty lodge. You need real numbers, real flight times, and honest advice about visas and vaccines.

Let’s get into the details.

Honeymoon Safari Kenya Brazilian Portuguese Speakers: Why Kenya Wins

Kenya has the Masai Mara, Amboseli, and the Indian Ocean coast all in one country. You can sleep under canvas with lions roaring a kilometer away, then a few days later walk on white sand in Diani. No other East African country packs this much variety into one trip.

The camps here understand romance. They set up private dinner tables in the bush, turn down your bed with a hot water bottle, and wake you with coffee at 5:30am. You are not a tourist in a herd. You are a couple with a private guide, a private vehicle, and a tent that faces the sunrise.

Best time to go for a honeymoon

Kenya has two dry seasons and two rainy seasons. For a honeymoon, target the dry months.

  • High season (July to October): This is the Great Migration in the Mara. The wildebeest crossings are dramatic. It is also the most expensive time. Park fees in the Masai Mara jump to USD 200 per person per day from July to December.
  • Shoulder season (January to February): Still dry, fewer crowds, and better rates. The calving season in the Mara happens in February, which means predator action.
  • Green season (November to December, March to May): Lush scenery, lower prices, but afternoon rains. Many camps close in April and May.

For a honeymoon, we recommend January or February. You get sunny days, calmer skies for hot air balloon rides, and more privacy at your camp.

Bush-and-beach itinerary: how to split your nights

Start with the safari, then go to the beach. The safari is active. You wake early, drive bumpy roads, and sit in the sun. The beach is rest. Finish your trip there.

A classic split is 7 nights total.

DestinationNightsWhat you get
Masai Mara (private conservancy)3Big cats, migration (Jul-Oct), private vehicle, walking safaris
Nairobi (transit)1Sleeper or day room before beach flight
Diani Beach (south coast)3White sand, warm Indian Ocean, resort pool
Total7 nightsSafari + relaxation combo

The drive from the Mara to Nairobi is about 5 to 6 hours by road. But for a honeymoon, book a light aircraft flight. It takes about 45 minutes from the Mara airstrip to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Then you connect to Ukunda Airstrip for Diani, another 1.5 hours by air. Total travel day: about 4 hours including connections. Worth every penny.

Named honeymoon camps worth your money

We work with camps that treat honeymooners differently. Here are three we trust.

1. Kicheche Bush Camp (Mara North Conservancy)

This is a classic tented camp with only six tents. It sits in the Mara North Conservancy, a private area next to the reserve. Conservancy fees run about USD 80 to 150 per person per night, bundled into your rate. Each tent has a veranda with a view over open grassland. The camp can arrange a private bush dinner under acacia trees.

2. Ol Donyo Lodge (Chyulu Hills)

This lodge sits between Amboseli and Tsavo, with views of Mount Kilimanjaro. It has a famous star-bed. Your four-poster bed rolls out onto a rooftop deck under the night sky. Chyulu Hills National Park entrance is USD 40 per person per day, much lower than the Mara. The service is impeccable for honeymooners.

3. The Maji Beach Boutique Hotel (Diani Beach)

After the bush, this boutique beach hotel gives you a private villa with a plunge pool. It is about a 10 minute drive from Ukunda Airstrip. The beach is wide and uncrowded. You can book a dhow sailing trip at sunset.

Romantic experiences to pre-book

Do not leave these to chance. Book them at least 2 months before you travel.

  • Hot air balloon over the Mara: USD 450 to 550 per person. Includes a champagne breakfast in the bush after landing.
  • Private bush dinner: Most camps offer this for USD 100 to 200 per couple. A private table set under the stars, with your own waiter and lanterns.
  • Sundowner: A classic. Your guide parks the jeep on a hilltop, sets up a table with wine and snacks, and you watch the sun dip below the savannah. Usually free if you are on a private vehicle package.
  • Couples massage: Available at Ol Donyo and Diani beach resorts. Prices vary, but budget USD 80 to 120 per session.

Visas and the yellow fever certificate for Brazilians

Yes, Brazilian citizens need travel authorization for Kenya. This is not optional.

Kenya retired its old e-visa system in January 2024. Travelers now apply through the Electronic Travel Authorization, or eTA, at etakenya.go.ke. The current eTA fee is USD 30, and processing usually takes a few business days. You will need a passport valid for at least 6 months, a digital passport photo, and your flight details. Apply well before departure and double check that you are using the official etakenya.go.ke site.

The yellow fever certificate is mandatory for entry into Kenya from Brazil. Brazilian airline check-in staff will ask to see your yellow fever certificate before you board your flight to Nairobi. If you do not have it, you will be denied boarding.

Get the vaccine at least 10 days before your departure. The certificate is valid for life. Bring the physical yellow card, not just a photo. Kenya immigration checks it carefully.

For complete visa steps and vaccine rules, see our guide on which currency to bring on safari as part of your overall trip prep.

Flights and routing from Brazil to Kenya

There are no direct flights from Brazil to Kenya. Plan on at least one connection.

  • From São Paulo (GRU): Ethiopian Airlines flies via Addis Ababa. Total travel time is about 16 to 18 hours with a 2 to 3 hour layover.
  • From Rio (GIG): Connect through São Paulo (GRU) first, then fly Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa to Nairobi. Total time: 18 to 22 hours.
  • From other Brazilian cities: Fly to GRU or GIG first, then connect.

We recommend Ethiopian Airlines for cost and schedule. They fly daily from GRU to Addis Ababa, with a same-terminal connection to Nairobi.

Portuguese-speaking guides: can BestCamp arrange one?

Yes. We have a small roster of guides in Kenya who speak Portuguese. They are certified by the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association. Demand is high, so we recommend booking at least 4 months ahead.

Your guide will handle daily briefings, game drives, and cultural visits in Portuguese. This matters for safety and for story telling. You do not want to miss the detail about how a leopard hunts because you were reading a translation.

If a Portuguese-speaking guide is not available on your exact dates, we pair you with an excellent English-speaking guide and provide a full Portuguese welcome pack, including wildlife checklists and dinner vocabulary.

Currency, cash, and tipping for Brazilians

Kenya uses the Kenyan Shilling (KES). But the safari industry works in US Dollars. Your camp rates and park fees are quoted in USD. You can pay by card at most camps, but you should carry some cash.

Bring USD bills printed after 2013. Old bills are often rejected. Small denominations (USD 5, 10, 20) are useful for tipping. You will not need Kenyan Shillings until you reach the beach or a local market.

Tipping is expected in Kenya. Plan on USD 10 to 15 per person per day for your guide, and USD 5 to 10 per day for camp staff. A concrete breakdown:

PersonAmount per day per couple
Private safari guideUSD 20 to 30
Camp staff (shared tip box)USD 15 to 20
Airport transfer driverUSD 5
Beach resort staffUSD 10

Packing for safari plus beach

Pack light. You will fly on small planes between the bush and the beach, and luggage weight limits are strict. Most light aircraft allow 15 kg (33 lbs) per person in a soft bag. No hard suitcases.

  • Safari days: Neutral colors (khaki, olive, beige). No bright whites or dark navy blues. Long sleeves for evening. A warm fleece for the 5am game drive. Comfortable walking shoes. A wide brim hat.
  • Beach days: Swimsuits, flip flops, light dresses, sunscreen, reef-safe and biodegradable.
  • Tech: A camera with a zoom lens (200mm minimum), binoculars, a power bank, and an adapter for Kenyan sockets (type G, British style).

Is it safe to do a honeymoon safari alone, as a couple?

Yes. You will be in a private vehicle with a guide the entire time, inside conservancies or reserves with trained staff. The camps are fenced or have askari guards who walk you to your tent after dark. We recommend private guiding for honeymooners, which adds cost but adds privacy and flexibility.

For a complete look at what a private honeymoon tent includes, read our guide on how much privacy a honeymoon tent actually offers.
