Samburu Walk-In Bush Camp

Samburu Walk-In Bush Camp

4 Days

Samburu sits north of the equator in genuinely arid country along the Ewaso Ng’iro river, and it holds a set of species you won’t find on a standard southern-circuit trip: Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, and the gerenuk, an antelope that browses standing on its hind legs. This trip runs from a walk-in bush camp, a semi-permanent canvas setup reached on foot from the vehicle drop point rather than driven straight up to, and includes guided walking sessions alongside the usual game drives. A Samburu warrior guide leads the walks, reading tracks and explaining the bush at a pace a vehicle can’t match. This is a quieter, far less visited park than the southern reserves, and it shows in how little other traffic you’ll see on a drive.

Highlights

  • The Samburu Special Five: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx
  • Guided walking safaris led by a Samburu warrior tracker, not just a driver
  • Ewaso Ng'iro riverbank game drives, the reserve's wildlife spine
  • Far lower visitor density than the Mara or Amboseli circuits
  • Optional visit to a Samburu village for a cultural morning
