Meru National Park was the setting for Joy Adamson’s Born Free and George Adamson’s lion rehabilitation work, and it remains one of Kenya’s least visited major parks despite genuinely good wildlife: lion, elephant, both rhino species in a fenced sanctuary zone, and reticulated giraffe on the same species list as Samburu further west. Roughly 870 km2 of riverine forest and open grassland cut by 13 permanent rivers, and on most days here you’ll see other safari vehicles rarely if at all. This trip camps in a remote bush setup with no fixed infrastructure nearby, built for travellers who’ve done the Mara and Amboseli circuits and want somewhere genuinely off the standard route.
