Yes. South Korean passport holders need an eTA (electronic Travel Authorization) for Kenya, which replaced the old e-visa system in 2024.
Apply online at the official Kenyan government site. It takes 3 to 7 business days and costs about USD 34, roughly KRW 46,000. Avoid third-party sites that charge triple the price.
Have your passport, a digital photo, and proof of yellow fever vaccination ready. The eTA is valid for 90 days, single entry. If you fly to Tanzania for a beach extension, you need a new eTA to return, so leave Kenya only at trip’s end.
How Do You Get from Incheon to Nairobi?
There are no direct flights from Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Nairobi (NBO). Expect one stop and about 16 to 18 hours of total flight time.
Main options:
- Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa: often cheapest, shortest layover.
- Qatar Airways via Doha: comfortable, adds about 3 hours.
- Emirates via Dubai: great schedules, costs more.
- Turkish Airlines via Istanbul: good baggage allowance.
A one-way ticket in low season costs KRW 900,000 to KRW 1,300,000. High season (July to October) is higher. Book 4 to 6 months ahead.

The Best Time to Visit Around Korean Holidays
You want to work around Seollal (Lunar New Year), Chuseok, and summer vacation. Here is a reality check.
- Chuseok (September or October) is the tail end of the Great Migration. Animals are still plentiful, but the grass is tall and dry.
- Seollal (January or February) falls in the green season, with lush grass, newborn animals, and a real chance of afternoon rain. Prices are lowest.
- Summer vacation in Korea (late July to mid August) is peak migration season, the busiest and most expensive time, but it delivers river crossings at the Mara River.
Late January or February is the best balance: lower rates, fewer crowds, and a green landscape.

The biggest cost is the camp. A splurge-worthy fly-camp, sleeping on a raised wooden deck under the Milky Way, costs an extra USD 150 to USD 250 per night. We recommend it for one night, the middle of your safari.
Do You Need a Korean-Speaking Guide?
No. You need a great English-speaking guide. Most Kenyan professional guides speak excellent English, and some speak German, French, or Spanish.
A dedicated Korean-speaking guide is rare and expensive, with fewer than a dozen in all of Kenya. Expect a premium of USD 100 to USD 150 per day.
For most honeymooners, we suggest skipping the Korean guide. Your guide will speak clear, slow English and know every bird call and track. Carry a small phrasebook: “jambo” (hello) and “asante” (thank you) go a long way.

Food and Meals: Is There Rice?
Yes. Kenyan camp kitchens serve rice, chapati, and potatoes with nearly every dinner. You will eat well.
A typical full-board camp day:
- 5:30 AM Coffee, tea, and a light snack at your tent door.
- 6:00 AM Game drive, with a full bush breakfast: eggs, bacon, toast, fruit, and coffee.
- 12:30 PM Lunch and a siesta at camp.
- 4:00 PM Afternoon tea with cake or samosas.
- 6:30 PM Sundowner: a gin and tonic on the Land Cruiser as the sun sets.
- 8:00 PM Three-course dinner: soup, grilled meat or fish, and dessert.
If you want Korean flavors, bring your own gochujang in a small jar. Most camps will store it and heat rice for you. Do not expect kimchi, but the curry and grilled meats are excellent.
Health Prep: Malaria Risk and Safe Parks
Malaria is a real concern in Kenya. Take antimalarial medication, such as Malarone or Doxycycline, and consult your Korean travel clinic at least 4 weeks before departure.

Packing and Luggage Weight Limits
Bush airstrip flights have strict luggage limits. Small Cessna Caravans and Twin Otters usually allow 15 kg (33 lbs) per person in a soft duffel bag. Hard shell suitcases will not fit.

Here is a realistic 8-day plan built around a honeymoon style, with a splurge night. Chyulu Hills sits southeast of Nairobi near Amboseli, while Lake Nakuru sits northwest, so the route flies rather than drives between the two.
- Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi at night. Stay near Wilson Airport.
- Day 2: Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park (2.5 hrs). Afternoon game drive and lunch at the cliff viewpoint.

Yes. The most popular route is a 2-hour flight from the Mara to Diani Beach near Mombasa. You can also fly to Zanzibar, Tanzania, but that requires a new eTA to return, so most travelers fly home from Tanzania instead.
Diani Beach sits on the Indian Ocean and is far nicer than Mombasa town. A luxury beach villa costs about USD 300-600 per night. Add 3 nights for good seafood and coral reefs.
Is Kenya Safe for Korean Travelers?
Yes, for organized safaris. Camps and lodges have security guards and ask you to walk with a lantern after dark. The main risk is petty theft in Nairobi city, not at the camps, so use the hotel shuttle or a registered taxi and avoid walking alone at night.
